It does not matter how badly you paint, so long as you don't paint badly like other people.

Winsor's Words of Wisdom .2

Did you know that we have 26 more vertebrae than you? We have no collarbone and our backbone is held together with muscles rather than ligaments. This accounts for the fact that we can elongate our bodies without damage and so are much more supple than you!

Quotation (16th November 2005)

With all their damned talk of modern painting, I've been forty years discovering that the queen of all coloure is black!

Stage One

The board was under painted with a varied of raw sienna and burnt sienna, and the composition accurately drawn, using a 2B pencil.

Stage Two

A start has been made blocking in the darks and mid-tones of the boat shapes. At this stage an accurate rendering of colour and detail is not necessary, but tonally the painting must be fairly accurate. The colours used were raw sienna, burnt sienna, cerulean blue, ultramarine blue and titanium white. I always use allkyd titanium white, which speeds up the drying time. By adding a small amount of white to most mixes the painting will almost be dry within 24 hours.

Stage Three

The blocking in process was continued using the same colours, with the addition of a little veridian to the sea and foliage mixes. No detail has been developed at this stage.

Stage Four

Although the overall blocking in continued, my attention returned to the boats. They are the focus of this painting and I began detailing them further and adding highlights.

Stage Five

The finished painting, Boats at Runswick Bay, 10 x12in. (25.3 x 30.4cm)
The painting was completed by developing the beach and foliage areas and adding thr final details and highlights. Indian yellow, for the foliage areas, was the only additional colour used. The painting took approximately two hours to complete and was painted in one sitting. Paint was applied as from the tube, no turpetine or painting medium was used.

Quotation (2nd November 2005)

"The difference between great people and everyone else is that great people create their lives actively, while everyone else is created by their lives, passively waiting to see where life takes them next. The difference between the two is the difference between living fully and just existing."
